Spiritual life is a long walk towards a promised land that is first and foremost within us, and we must set off again each day to draw closer to it. Just like nomads in the desert continually search for wells and oases, we must constantly keep moving.
So many spiritualists believe that they will find the Promised Land while staying in the same place. They shut themselves up inside themselves – symbolically speaking in a house with thick walls – and not only do they remain inside, but they amass countless useless and cumbersome objects.
They would do better to leave this house behind and take only what is necessary for their journey. In order to reach the Promised Land, all they need is a small tent and to cultivate sobriety by seeking food for their soul and spirit.
