Huge advances in the sciences and in technology encourage our contemporaries to seek an easy life. But nowhere in nature do we find a programme for an easy life.
Human beings are on earth to work, but to work above all on themselves, so that there will be constant inner progress. Of course, people go to work every day, but the main aim of all their activity is to provide material security for themselves and their family; it rarely nourishes their soul and spirit, which is why they wear themselves out.
It is spiritual work that strengthens, enlivens and rejuvenates.
And when I say spiritual work, I am not necessarily thinking of meditation or prayer. Every activity we pursue, however modest, brings renewed energy, if we make the effort to accompany it with a feeling of love and with light-filled thoughts.
