Repression is the refusal to give a natural outlet to sexual force without having in mind an ideal powerful enough to be able to work on the higher planes to channel and transform this force.
True renunciation must not be a deprivation, but a transposition onto another plane. The same activity continues, but it is directed towards the higher planes.
We must not deprive ourselves, we must not do without, but rather shift what we were doing below to on high, so that instead of drinking water from a swamp – symbolically speaking – we drink water from a pure, crystal-clear spring.
